Munich on foot

Munich's old town is small enough to walk in one afternoon. On Marienplatz stands the New Town Hall with its Glockenspiel, and a few steps away the Frauenkirche with its two towers. Across the Viktualienmarkt and past the Residenz you reach the English Garden.

CuriFox turns this into a free walking tour without a group and without a fixed time: pick a start and an end, start walking and get stories and riddles about the places on the way.

Where to walk in Munich: ideas for start and finish

In the app you only pick a start and a finish, CuriFox builds the way between them. A few ideas for Munich:

Old town. Marienplatz, Viktualienmarkt, the Frauenkirche and the Residenz all lie inside the old city ring. A loop from Marienplatz via Odeonsplatz and back to Sendlinger Tor is about 2 to 3 kilometres.

English Garden. From the Haus der Kunst past the Eisbach wave to the Chinese Tower is a good 2 kilometres, to the Kleinhesseloher See about 3. With the way back through Schwabing it becomes a half-afternoon loop.

Maxvorstadt. The museum quarter with the Pinakotheken, Königsplatz and the university. From the main station to Münchner Freiheit through Maxvorstadt and Schwabing is around 4 kilometres.

Haidhausen. On the other side of the Isar: the French quarter with its squares and old lodging houses, the Gasteig and the view from the Maximilianeum. As a loop from Isartor, 3 to 4 kilometres.

Isar. From the Deutsches Museum upstream to the Flaucher: about 4 kilometres by the water, with gravel banks and barbecue spots in summer. One of the best long stretches in the city.

Nymphenburg. In the west, reached by tram: Nymphenburg Palace with the canal in front and the park behind. From Rotkreuzplatz to the palace and once through the park is about 5 kilometres.

Tip: for groups Marienplatz is easy to find as a meeting point; as a finish a beer garden at the end of the stretch works better.
