Berlin on foot

Berlin is too big for a single walk, so the city is best explored one neighbourhood at a time. In Mitte, the Brandenburg Gate from 1791, the boulevard Unter den Linden and Museum Island, a UNESCO World Heritage site, lie along one line. A few streets further the city already looks completely different.

CuriFox turns this into a free walking tour at your own pace: you choose a start and an end, the app finds the interesting places in between and tells a short story about each of them.

Where to walk in Berlin: ideas for start and finish

In the app you only pick a start and a finish, CuriFox builds the way between them. Berlin is big, so it pays to keep one loop inside one district. A few ideas:

Mitte. From the Brandenburg Gate along Unter den Linden to the Museum Island and on to Alexanderplatz: about 3 kilometres, the best known stretch of the city. Turn off at the cathedral and you are in the Nikolaiviertel by the Spree in ten minutes.

Tiergarten. From the Brandenburg Gate through the park to the Victory Column and on to the Zoo: 3 to 4 kilometres, almost all of it under trees. The shortest escape from the traffic.

Kreuzberg. From the Bergmannkiez over the Viktoriapark with its waterfall on the Kreuzberg hill to the Landwehr canal and the Admiralbrücke: 2 to 3 kilometres. Small shops, cafés and water at the end.

Prenzlauer Berg. From Kollwitzplatz past the water tower of 1877 along Kastanienallee to the Mauerpark: around 3 kilometres. On Sundays the loop ends at the flea market.

Friedrichshain and the Spree. The East Side Gallery, 1.3 kilometres of painted Wall, then over the Oberbaum bridge and back to Boxhagener Platz: 3 to 4 kilometres by the river and through the neighbourhood.

Charlottenburg. From Charlottenburg Palace and its park to the Kurfürstendamm and the Memorial Church: about 3 kilometres through the old West.

Tip: for 7 to 15 kilometres follow the Spree, for example from Mitte through Kreuzberg to Treptower Park, almost always by the water.
