Frankfurt on foot
In Frankfurt the old town and the skyscrapers are only a few minutes apart. The Römer on Römerberg square has been the town hall since 1405. Next to it stands the Paulskirche, where the first freely elected German parliament met in 1848. The Eiserner Steg, an iron footbridge from 1869, takes you across the Main.
CuriFox turns this into a free self-guided walking tour: you set a start and an end, and the app leads you past places most people walk by.
Where to walk in Frankfurt: ideas for start and finish
In the app you only pick a start and a finish, CuriFox builds the way between them. A few ideas for Frankfurt:
Old town and the Main embankment. From the Römerberg across the Eiserner Steg to Sachsenhausen and back along the museum embankment: a loop of about 3 kilometres that takes in the cathedral, the river and the museums on the Schaumainkai. The new old town between cathedral and Römer has been standing again since 2018.
Sachsenhausen. Old Sachsenhausen with its cider taverns around the Klappergasse is small; together with the riverbank it makes 2 to 3 kilometres. Meant as the finish for an evening.
Westend and Palmengarten. From the Alte Oper through the 19th century streets of the Westend to the Palmengarten and the Grüneburgpark, about 3 kilometres, quiet and shady.
Bornheim and Nordend. The Berger Straße from Konstablerwache to Bornheim Mitte is around 2.5 kilometres, one neighbourhood after the other. For a longer loop, come back through the Nordend.
Höchst. In the west, reached by S-Bahn: the old town of Höchst with half-timbered houses, the palace and the 9th century Justinuskirche, one of the oldest churches in Germany. A loop of 2 kilometres by the Main.
Lohrberg. Frankfurt's only vineyard, with a view of the skyline from the top. From Bornheim or Seckbach 3 to 4 kilometres, uphill.
Tip: routes of 7 to 15 kilometres pay off along the Main, for example from Höchst to the city centre along the bank.
